Part II – Basic Definitions

A few terms you will want to know when going through any of my tutorials.

  • Standing End – the end of the rope that does not have the knot in it.
  • Working End – the end of the rope you are currently tying.
  • Bight – a short loop made anywhere in the rope by folding the rope back on itself.
  • Loop – a full circle of rope made by passing the working end over itself.
  • Turn – when the rope passes around another object or even itself
    • Single Turn- the working end passes around the object and makes a simple U-turn back towards the standing end .
    • Round Turn- the working end passes around the object and wraps one full time before heading back towards the standing end.
    • Two Round Turns – the working end passes around the object and wraps two full times before heading back towards the standing end.
